Trojan Hoarse: With Bruins Next, USC Smelling Like Roses
by: Shane Carney | SportsFan Magazine | Saturday, December 3, 2005
December 3 is finally here. I can already smell the roses. The first game of the home and home series is at the Coliseum. The second game is at the Rose Bowl. It's just too bad for UCLA that they aren't going to get to play their home game. This is the game everyone has been waiting for. Half of the UCLA fans are hoping to pull off an enormous upset. The other half are looking for the big win since they consider themselves equal to the Trojans. USC fans are sitting confident and excited to see one final victory before marching across town to play for the national championship. Every true fan should do something to support their team, and I expect that everyone will. Expect the Trojans to be fired up even more than normal as the Bruins have had some things to say leading up to the game this weekend. The Trojans responded with words of their own including calling the Bruins "pansies." Look for big hits to intensify a game that will already have an extremely high level of intensity.
«FULL STORY» Trojan Hoarse: Heisman Is Reggie Bush's To Lose
by: Shane Carney | SportsFan Magazine | Wednesday, November 23, 2005
After Saturday night's game against Fresno State, not giving the Heisman to Reggie Bush would be grand theft. Although Matt Leinart and Vince Young are both extremely talented individuals, there is no argument against Bush. Bush is currently leading the nation with 8.6 yards per carry. Not 3.6, not even 6.6, but 8.6 yards per carry. Over the course of eleven games, this average sounds impossible to maintain, but Reggie is doing just that. In Saturday's 50-42 victory over the sixteenth-ranked Fresno State Bulldogs, Bush accumulated 513 total yards. The 513 yards (294 rushing, 68 receiving, and 151 return) broke the PAC-10 record and was the second highest total in NCAA history. Against the Bulldogs, Matt Leinart completed twenty-two of his thirty-three passes for 200 yards and a touchdown to Steve Smith. He could have thrown for a lot more yards, but Bush was completely dominating all aspects of the game.
